Cílem kurzu je detailní rozbor problematiky celkové transformace společnosti v post-industriální etapě. Koncepce předmětu respektuje nutnost nabídnout jak teoreticko-metodologický základ problematiky, tak praktické návody a postupy pro realizaci revitalizačních projektů. Na konci kurzu by student měl umět: pochopit problém v ucelené podobě a zároveň by, prostřednictvím případových studií, měl načerpat inspiraci z praktické stránky uskutečněných projektů i územně ucelených řešení revitalizace post-industriální krajiny.

The course is based on highly participative methods, which leave the responsibility for theme and process of the individual session with the learners and respects their current interests and concerns. The open atmosphere motivates students to speak about those themes that they choose and to develop communication skills at their own pace thus being able to overcome language barriers. The students will have to propose themes for the individual session and to choose unanimously the theme they want to talk about. Questions concerned with this theme will be collected and put in the order in which they will be discussed. The aim of the discussion is not to convince the others of ones own opinion but to discuss the theme from different perspectives very thoroughly leaving room for learning from each other. The result will be a study poster (also written by students) with all the relevant information and vocabulary to discuss this particular theme.
European societies face great challenges: In the light of an aging society we have to adjust the systems of social security and how older persons are integrated in to the workforce. Decreasing birth rates are combated with financial incentives and other forms of support to help combine work and family. Immigration is expected to remedy labour shortage but requires a high capability for integration etc. In this course we will work on and discuss a range of problem areas and exemplary practical experience.
The aim of the course is that the students inform themselves in English about current problems, form their own opinion and engage in discussion. The following skills will be trained in the course of the seminar: work with academic and non-academic texts, analysis and description of tables, graphs and diagrams and development of argumentation and discussion skills. The students will gain an active and passive knowledge of technical terms in order to be able to orientate themselves in the current debate.
Europäische Gesellschaften sehen sich großen Herausforderungen gegenüber: Die alternde Gesellschaft erfordert eine Anpassung der Sozialversicherungssysteme, aber auch der Art und Weise, wie ältere Menschen in den Erwerbsprozess integriert werden. Finanzielle Anreize und unterstützende Maßnahmen, um Beruf und Familie zu vereinbaren, sollen sinkenden Geburtenraten entgegen wirken. Zuwanderung soll den Mangel an Arbeitskräften beheben und erfordert gleichzeitig von den Menschen hohe Integrationsleistungen usw. In diesem Kurs werden wir einige Problemkreise erarbeiten und erfolgreiche und modellhafte Beispiele aus der Praxis diskutieren.
Ziel des Kurses ist es, dass die Studenten sich zu aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Problemen auf Deutsch informieren, sich eine eigene fundierte Meinung bilden und diese in der Diskussion mit anderen vertreten. Im Zentrum des Seminars steht die Arbeit mit wissenschaftlichen und publizistischen Texten, die Analyse und Beschreibung von Tabellen, Grafiken und Schaubildern und die Entwicklung der Argumentations- und Diskussionsfähigkeit. Die Studenten lernen, notwendiges Fachvokabular aktiv und passiv zu verwenden, um sich in der gegenwärtigen Debatte orientieren zu können.
